Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth replacement that’s extremely durable and the next best thing to actual teeth in terms of natural appearance and aesthetics. The dental implant procedure is classified as prosthetic dentistry, although it may also be considered cosmetic dentistry in some circumstances.

During the dental implant procedure, a small titanium shaft is painlessly surgically implanted into the jawbone and allowed to set. The bone grows around it and forms b a tight connection, which helps to slow or even stop the bone loss that occurs when the root of a natural tooth is missing. Once the implant is firmly set in the mouth, we’ll work to attach a replacement tooth onto the top of the shaft. This permanent solution has the advantages over bridge work in that it does not stress the surrounding teeth for support. Additionally, should the tooth wear out – – another can simply be replaced on the shaft.

Implants can also be used to support an implant bridge, which is an increasingly popular alternative to removable partial dentures and has several advantages. First, there is the comfort and convenience factor, as there is no need to adjust to metal or plastic supports intruding into the mouth. Second, implants prevent the progressive bone loss that is common after tooth loss. Finally, there is no difficulty eating associated with dental implants. And perhaps best of all, they don't need to be constantly taken out and cleaned after eating.
