Peninsula Dentists Lead Nation in Operating Microscope Technology

Twelve years ago, local dentist Dr. Guy Levy purchased his first operating microscope for his Peninsula dental practice. Today, the general dentistry office houses the nation’s largest installation of surgical quality microscopes in every exam room.

Dr. Levy explains, “I quickly came to realize the operating microscope was a win-win proposition for my patients and for me. The tiny world inside the mouth, which we typically measure in fractions of millimeters, became huge and brightly illuminated under the microscope. With the microscope, I have comfortable posture and no eye strain so that I focus exclusively on our patient’s care. I view details of teeth and gums I could not previously see. As a result, I am much more precise in my exams and procedures. Many times I can perform procedures with no pain and no anesthetic shots.”

Three years ago Levy added live video capability so his assistants watch exactly what he is viewing. Many patients also choose to watch the procedures. “Now my staff and I engage very efficiently as a team because we all see what I see on a large video screen. Our enhanced teamwork creates more predictable and comfortable experiences for our patients,” Levy firmly believes.

Realizing they needed more room for more microscopes as well as other new technologies, this month the dentists moved into a new office which includes the nation’s largest installation of video enhanced surgical quality microscopes in a general dental practice.
