While many dental procedures occur because of lackluster dental hygiene (i.e., not flossing enough or drinking too much sugary soda), sometimes patients have a good excuse.

An example is the deep grooves that form on teeth, especially molars. These grooves, fissures and pits easily accumulate plaque that’s out of reach for a toothbrush. Over time, this plaque can degenerate into tooth decay and cavities. Think of it as a proactive procedure that can eliminate the need for fillings, root canal treatments and crowns down the road.
