Sealants

While many dental procedures occur because of lackluster dental hygiene (i.e., not flossing enough or drinking too much sugary soda), sometimes patients have a good excuse.

An example is the deep grooves that form on teeth, especially molars. These grooves, fissures and pits easily accumulate plaque that’s out of reach for a toothbrush. Over time, this plaque can degenerate into tooth decay and cavities. In order to help prevent cavities from developing,  the dentists at The Levy Dental Group bring in the sealant, a plastic resin that’s applied to tooth enamel to smooth out surface irregularities. Think of it as a proactive procedure that can eliminate the need for fillings, root canal treatments and crowns down the road. The resulting smoother surface is much easier to brush, giving dental plaque fewer places to hide.
