Crowns

Cracked Tooth

When tooth decay, fissures and fractures reach the point at which fillings can no longer be helpful, a crown is often the next most viable solution.

Crowns are multi-purpose, full-coverage restorations. Not only are they used to functionally cap teeth that have cracked or decayed, but they also serve an aesthetic purpose by covering teeth that are discolored or misshapen. In other words, they can make a smile stronger – and more attractive.

Crowns can also secure a dental bridge, replace a large filling, cover a dental implant, and commonly serve as the final step of a root canal treatment.

At The Levy Dental Group, we have the capability to complete the high strength porcelain crown procedure in one visit using E4D computer aided design and fabrication.  For most conditions 1 day crowns are recommended for both your convenience  and the health of your tooth.

When 1 day crown procedures are not possible, it typically takes  two appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first appointment, any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to fit the crown. X-rays are performed and an impression of the tooth is made for use in building a crown tailored to a tooth’s unique structure. Patients will receive a temporary crown while the permanent crown is being crafted. Crowns are most often made of metal or high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, the latter of which can be perfectly matched to the color of your teeth. During the second visit this temporary is removed, the permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then bonded  in place.
